Free upgrade from Windows 8.1 to Windows 10
The announcement was made by Tami Reller, CFO of Windows, at the JP Morgan Technology, Media & Telecom Conference in Boston. Reller also pointed out that for users who still plan to upgrade to Windows 8, prices will remain the same: $120 for the upgrade and $200 for the full version.
Given all the information we've learned from recent leaks about the operating system, the announcement comes as no surprise.
Given the criticism the operating system has received recently, I think Microsoft's decision to offer Windows 8.1 as a free update makes perfect sense. And now with the new changes, including the Start button and boot-to-desktop option, this could boost sales and convince people that Windows 8 is a great operating system – which I think it already is.
