Windows 10 21H2, November 2021 Update: Reinstall from USB to SSD or HDD
Microsoft has started automatically rolling out Windows 10 21H2 (November 2021 Update) using its machine learning (ML) technology to devices running version 20H2. Although feature updates are optional, when an older version approaches end of service, the company will have to manually force the upgrade so that devices remain supported.
On the Windows Release Health website, the company explains that it has "begun the first phase of rolling out machine learning (ML) training to automatically upgrade devices running Windows 10, version 20H2 that are nearing end of service to Windows 10, version 21H2."
If you're still on version 20H2, there's no need to wait. You can update immediately via Windows Update. Since these versions use the same core file system, the update only requires a quick reboot without requiring a full reinstall. However, if you use the Update Assistant or Media Creation Tool, a clean install will occur. You should only use these options if the device is having issues and you want to start over with a clean install.
