It was only a matter of time before the first Metro-style version of Chrome came out. Not long ago, we heard that the search giant was working on a new version of its web browser software, and now it's here: Google has released a "work in progress" version of its software for Windows 8 Release Preview users. If you want to try out the new Chrome, you can do so by installing the latest version from the Dev channel. The installation is a little odd, as Chrome installs the Metro version of the browser, even though Microsoft states that Metro-style apps can only be installed from the Windows Store.

At first glance, there aren't too many changes. The Metro version of the browser works and looks the same as the desktop version. Since it's also designed to work with touch-enabled devices, there are larger and more spacing between elements and menu items in this new version of Chrome. The wrench icon has been replaced with a horizontal image with three lines, the settings page hasn't changed, and Adobe Flash is also supported on all sites.

Many people may be a little disappointed that the Metro version of the browser doesn't come without Chrome by default; tabs, omnibar and bookmarks take up a large portion of the actual screen – and that's compared to Internet Explorer 10 Metro.

Windows 8's Snap View is supported, but web browsing is somewhat limited in the smaller view. Currently, Chrome supports information sharing in Windows 8 – this allows you to use charms and share web content with other apps. You have to take into account that this version of the web browser is still in early development, but I still prefer Internet Explorer 10 when I want to browse the web in full screen and Metro style.
