Windows 11 (NEW feature): Access Android phone files wirelessly via File Explorer
On Windows 11, you can now access your Android files wirelessly from File Explorer using the native Mobile Devices option. In this guide, I'll explain how to perform this task. Although you've been able to access your Android phone's files from File Explorer for a long time, it was a tedious process as you had to connect your phone with a USB cable and then change your phone's settings to enable file transfer via USB.
Google has also introduced support for Nearby Share for devices running Windows 11 and 10, but it's limited to sending documents and pictures from your phone to your computer. The new approach uses the Link to Windows app and the Manage Mobile Devices feature on Windows 11 to connect to your Android phone. Once this initial process is complete, your phone will appear as another item in the File Explorer navigation pane, making it easier to access your pictures and virtually all of your files.
This feature works with Android 11 and later versions before you can access your files on your phone. You will need the Link to Windows app in beta version 1.24071 or later and a device enrolled in one of the Windows Insider Program channels.
