Windows 10: Check if the drive is MBR or GPT (3 ways)
There are two partition types in Windows 10, the old "Master Boot Record" (MBR) and the newer "GUID Partition Table (GPT)." A partition describes how data is stored on the hard drive and where its boundaries are (beginning and end) and contains the instructions to make the partition bootable.
The Master Boot Record (MBR) is the older style available in Windows 10 and offers the greatest compatibility, but has some limitations, such as supporting drives with up to 2 TB of storage per section.
GUID Partition Table (GPT), on the other hand, is the newer style that overcomes the limitations as it includes support for larger capacity drives and an unlimited number of partitions. Additionally, there are other benefits such as data integrity verification and self-recovery, and partition and boot data are stored in multiple locations within the drive.
