Windows 11: Disable Windows Recall AI (3 Methods)

UPDATED 6/6/2024: On Windows 11 24H2, you can disable the recall feature completely or temporarily. In this guide, I'll explain how to perform this configuration. Although the recall feature can help you find all the activities (such as documents, pictures, websites, messages, emails, apps, and more) you've performed on your computer using an AI model running locally on the computer, it's not a feature for everyone as many users may consider this feature a privacy and security risk.

This is because the Timeline feature technically constantly takes screenshots of everything that happens on the screen and can record sensitive information (like passwords, bank account numbers, private pictures and videos, etc.). Of course, it offers encryption, but only if you enable BitLocker on the system drive. Otherwise, if you don't use encryption and someone gains access to your computer, the information may be accessible.

Many people also worry about the use of system resources and the impact on battery life, even though the NPU (Neural Processing Unit) does most of the processing. In theory, this feature shouldn't significantly impact battery or performance.
