Windows 11: Enable BitLocker Drive Encryption
You can enable BitLocker on Windows 10, but the instructions differ slightly depending on whether you're using Windows 10 Home or Pro. In this guide, I'll show you how.
In short, BitLocker is a security feature that protects your files by encrypting data to prevent unauthorized access by hackers and prying eyes. The feature is available on Windows 10 Pro, Enterprise, and Education. While it is not available for the Home edition, the operating system offers a limited version of BitLocker called "Device Encryption" that is available on compatible devices (such as Surface Pro 9, Laptop 5, and others equipped with a Trusted Platform Module (TPM) 1.2, 2.0, or later versions).
On Windows 10 Pro, you can enable BitLocker without a TPM using software-based encryption, but it requires additional steps for additional authentication.
