Demo of the new Settings user interface for Windows Terminal
The Windows Terminal app lets you change the theme mode from light to dark and vice versa to manually personalize the experience. Or you can use the option to have the Windows Terminal app automatically switch the theme when you change the system color theme on Windows 10.
If you prefer the dark theme when entering commands, you can change the theme mode on the Appearance settings page or edit the Settings.json file using a text editor such as Visual Studio Code.
Although the names can be used interchangeably, a theme is not the same as a color scheme. Windows Terminal defines a theme as the color mode of the application (light or dark). The color scheme is a color scheme for the background, selection, cursor, foreground, etc. and is unique to a specific command-line tool (Command Prompt, PowerShell, WSL2, etc.).
