Windows 10 Tech Preview: 10 hidden new features of the operating system
It seems that Microsoft hasn't completely ruled out the idea of the immersive search experience, as you can still enable the feature in the latest version of Windows 10.
When the software giant was developing the April 2018 Update, among all the features and improvements, Microsoft also tested a new immersive search feature that wasn't attached to the taskbar. Instead, it was a new search box that floated on the desktop, similar to the macOS Spotlight feature, but it never made it into the final version.
However, even after Cortana and Search were split into two separate features (via the latest version of Windows), you can still enable immersive search with rounded corners via the registry.
