Find your Windows product key
Previously, you could find the Windows product key on the back of your computer (usually near the power adapter) or on the bottom of your laptop in case you ever needed to reinstall the operating system.
These days, it's not easy to find your product key for Windows 7, Windows 8.1, or Windows 10. This is partly because most desktops, laptops, and tablets no longer have a product key sticker because the recovery partition already contains an activated version of Windows.
However, it is always a good idea to know your Windows product key in case something goes wrong during an upgrade, such as a hard drive failure, or because you want to perform a clean install of the operating system.
