Just weeks after Microsoft finally released the Core i3 and Core i7 models of its Surface Pro 3 tablet, many consumers started reporting overheating issues. And it's clear that these aren't just one or two isolated cases, as users are reporting that their tablets are getting extremely hot and, as a result, are also making loud noises from rapidly spinning fans.

Microsoft fix for overheating issues on Surface Pro 3 coming soon
Although Microsoft has not yet commented on this heat issue, some users are trying to find a solution. And according to a thread on the Microsoft Support forum, user Step_001 states that the problem seems to be caused by the Windows Installer Module and the Windows Installer Module Worker.
These processes start for no apparent reason and place a heavy load on the Surface Pro 3's processor and memory, causing the device to overheat and producing a loud and annoying fan.
Some users in the same Microsoft support thread agree that opening Task Manager and killing these two processes temporarily solves the heat and annoyingly loud fan issue. It's worth noting that this isn't a fix documented by Microsoft, and it's not clear if the procedure will fix the problem for all Surface Pro 3 Core i7 overheating issues. (If you're having the problem, it can't hurt to try.)
