EASY SOLUTION – If your laptop battery is dead…
A new thread on the Microsoft forums states that after installing Windows RT 8.1 Preview, the Surface RT tablet's battery drains significantly in Connected Standby mode. During the day and when the tablet is not in use, the battery loses about 30%.
The person reporting the issue also states that using powercfg /sleepstudy reports the Microsoft UART V2 driver (/_SB.UAR3) as the cause of the battery issue. Shortly after, a community member suggested enabling the wireless Bluetooth radio on their Surface. Although such a solution sounds backwards because we all know it will consume even more battery, this workaround actually fixed the current operating system battery drain issue.
If you are affected by the same problem, try the following: From the Start screen, use the keyboard shortcut +i, click or tap Change PC settings, go to PC and devices, Bluetooth and finally click or tap to enable the option.
