Windows 11 24H2: Unsupported hardware installation process (official)

If you already have a computer with unsupported hardware running Windows 11 23H2 or 22H2, there are at least two ways to upgrade to Windows 11 24H2, and that is through clean installation or in-place upgrade. In this guide, I'll explain both of these methods. If you have a device running Windows 10, I only recommend clean installation, not in-place upgrade.

Windows 11 24H2 (2024 Update) is the next major update to the operating system with a focus on AI features like Recall. It is scheduled to launch in the second half of 2024. However, since the operating system runs on many computers whose hardware does not meet the requirements, the feature update is not available through the "Windows Update" settings, nor can users use the "Installation Assistant" tool or the standard bootable USB media created with the Media Creation Tool.

However, upgrading is still possible by wiping the hard drive and setting up a fresh copy of Windows 11 24H2, or you can upgrade your existing setup to version 24H2 by performing an in-place upgrade. In my experience, the clean install process is the best option as it erases everything including settings, apps and files, which usually helps fix existing memory, performance and boot issues and minimizes the problems during the installation process.
