Many users are excited about the release of the Windows 8 Developers Preview because it gives us a chance to get a first look at what's to come and gives us a head start on developing new and unique Windows 8 applications. However, you have to remember that this is an unfinished product, there's still a lot of work to be done, and there's a good chance that things can go wrong. Therefore, the most effective way to test Windows 8 is to create a virtual machine (VM). If you've tried to create a virtual machine using VMware Workstation 7, VMware Player 3, VirtualBox, Virtual PC, or Windows 7 XP Mode, you've probably been unable to get to the Windows 8 installation process—I know this because it happened to me, too.

How to Install Windows 8 Developer Preview on VMware with Download Links
After a lot of trial and error, I was able to get my Windows 8 Developer Preview to work. Many users may have found other ways to install this version of Windows, but I wanted to share how it worked for me.
Before we begin, I tried this installation process using a regular laptop with a dual-core Intel CPU, which also runs Windows 7. And the image I used was the 32-bit version of Windows 8, version 6.2.8102, also known as Build 8102.
If you didn't get the Windows 8 Developer Preview ISO image, just head over to this previous article and get links to download a copy of your choice.
