How to let apps through the firewall on Windows 11
Microsoft Defender Firewall is one of the many security features in Windows 11 that protect your computer and files from both external and internal threats.
A firewall acts as a gatekeeper, blocking unused network ports. Every time an app wants to communicate outside your device, it checks if there is a rule in its database that allows or denies network access. If no rule exists, the firewall asks you to identify it and grant or deny permission.
While Microsoft Defender Firewall does a pretty good job of managing which apps and features should automatically connect to the network, sometimes you may need to manually allow or deny an app.
