Align taskbar to top in Windows 11 (2024)

UPDATED 02/22/2023: Windows 11 has a redesigned taskbar with centered alignment of the Start menu and app buttons, a new notification area, new effects and animations, and more. While it introduces many welcome improvements, it also removes some outdated features, such as the ability to move the taskbar.

You cannot move the taskbar on Windows 11 as it is a completely new design and moving it around the screen is a challenge. Microsoft has explained that just moving the taskbar to the right suddenly changes the entire design (including Start menu and apps) and the current UI and animations are designed to be placed at the bottom. Therefore, the effort involved was not worth it as there was not enough demand.

If you are one of those who like to have the taskbar in a different location (for example, at the top, left or right), you can still move it. The only limitation is that you can only accomplish this task by editing the registry.
