👉 Set Chrome as default browser (also for Outlook) on Windows 11
UPDATED 7/15/2024: On Windows 11, Microsoft Edge is the default browser for browsing the web, opening web links, and viewing PDF files. However, you can change this and set the system to default to Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox, Brave, Opera, or another browser.
In the initial release of the operating system, Microsoft aggressively prevented users from setting any other browser as their default. However, after numerous complaints, the company reversed the changes and introduced a new option on the Default Apps settings page that makes it easier to get rid of Microsoft Edge as the default browser.
If you use this option, the system will set the new browser (e.g. Chrome) as the default for .htm, .html, HTTP, and HTTPS, the primary protocols for accessing the Internet. However, this is not perfect, as Microsoft Edge will continue to be the default for other protocols, including .pdf, .svg, .xhtml, and FTP.
