As you may have heard, Microsoft has finally added IMAP support to Outlook.com, for the software and legacy devices that don't yet support the Exchange ActiveSync (EAS) protocol for syncing email clients with Outlook servers.

Thunderbird: How to configure an IMAP email account with SSL
Now, if you are a Thunderbird user and want to set up an Outlook.com account with IMAP settings, you need to follow these steps in Windows 8 (but it should work with earlier versions of the operating system as well):
1. In Thunderbird, select Options from the menu button in the top right corner and then Account Settings
2. Click Account Actions, enter your email account information, and select Add Email Account.
