For those who don't know, Windows 8.1 will be free and rumors say the final version will be available for download on August 1st. Additionally, Microsoft is expected to release a preview of Windows 8.1 during the BUILD conference ahead of the final release (also called RTM) on June 26th, 2013.

For those who want to install the preview, there are some important FAQs. For example, upgrading to Windows 8.1 Preview does not prevent users from installing the final version later, but apps (Metro style and desktop) will need to be reinstalled. On the other hand, user accounts, personal data, settings and personalization will be preserved during the process. The same is true for Windows RT, but since desktop applications are not supported, this is not a big problem.
