Recently, many Surface Pro 3 tablets with Intel's Core i7 processor have been experiencing overheating issues, causing the fan to become louder and a thermometer to appear on the display. This quickly turned out to be a larger problem, and this week Microsoft officially admitted that there is indeed an issue with a certain number of Surface tablets with Core i7 CPUs.

Microsoft fix for overheating issues on Surface Pro 3 coming soon

I have contacted Microsoft and here is the statement that Pureinfotech company provided regarding this incident:

"The Surface team is aware that a very small number of Surface Pro 3 Intel® Core™ i7 devices are temporarily rebooting and incorrectly displaying a 'thermometer gauge' icon upon booting up. Our investigation has shown that for some users, the system is triggering this event earlier than it should, only when the device is rebooting, and not when the device is booted up and running. We have an update that addresses this issue and will be available to our customers as soon as possible.

The i7 version of the Surface Pro 3 is the first tablet of its kind to offer i7 processing power in a thin and light chassis. The increased performance therefore requires the fan to run more regularly and at a higher speed – and the device to get a bit warmer. If customers have any questions or concerns, they should contact Microsoft Support."
