Let's fix Windows 10 after a failed Windows update

If you haven't upgraded to Windows 10 yet, Microsoft is now rolling out a new update for Windows 8.1, Windows 7, Windows Server 2008, and Windows Server 2012 R2 to provide improvements to the Windows Update feature that should make upgrading to Windows 10 a little smoother.

The update for Windows 8.1 and Windows Server 2012 R2 is called KB3112336 and the update for Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008 is called KB3112343. They are now available as optional updates via Windows Update.

According to the description, the update "enables support for additional upgrade scenarios from Windows 8.1 to Windows 10 and provides a smoother experience when you need to retry an operating system upgrade due to certain error conditions. This update also improves Microsoft's ability to monitor the quality of the upgrade experience."
