Install Windows Media Center on Windows 10
Microsoft is pulling the plug on Windows Media Center for Windows 10. Although the company stopped updating the feature back in 2009, Windows Media Center will continue to ship to Windows 8 users via an upgrade package. However, the software maker has confirmed that Windows 10 will not include an updated version of Windows Media Center, nor the current unmodified version of the feature. This means that PCs upgrading to Windows 10 from Windows 7 or Windows 8.1 will lose the feature forever.
The move should come as no surprise, as the company stopped development more than five years ago. Microsoft first introduced the feature in 2001. It was designed to provide a set-top box experience focused on video, music and live TV, but never caught the attention of enough users.
The company continues to focus on TV and entertainment features, but on a different device. Xbox One is the company's answer to games, movies, music and live TV.
