Microsoft is releasing a fix for battery management issues on Surface Pro 4 and Surface Book. Since the company launched both devices, numerous users have reported that their devices never go into sleep mode properly, causing components to overheat and significantly drain the battery.

Power management on both Surface devices was a known issue for Microsoft, but the company never officially notified customers about the problem or provided any information about when the issue would be fixed.

On February 17, Surface Pro 4 and Surface Book will receive a new update called "System Hardware Update – 2/17/2016." In a new article on the Microsoft Devices Blog, Panos Panay, Corporate VP at Microsoft, says, "Today's updates include a series of driver and firmware updates from Microsoft and Intel for Surface Book and Surface Pro 4 that help you take full advantage of the power management options Surface is designed to provide and make your Surface even more productive."
