Save power with Xbox Power Saving Mode.

Although the Xbox One is significantly more powerful than the Xbox 360, the console uses almost the same amount of power. Environmentalists, however, are not critical of the Xbox One's "instant-on" feature, saying it is a "poorly designed feature" that wastes a lot of power. You can read the report here.

Microsoft responded to criticism by saying that the Instant-On feature solves the problem of system updates that interrupt the gaming and entertainment experience and frustrate users. It helps automatically download games and content that users purchase through Xbox.com or SmartGlass, and the Instant-On feature gives users a whole new way to control Xbox One with voice commands.

However, the company states that while Instant-on is a great feature, owners should also have the option of a "power saving mode" to reduce household power consumption. According to the software giant, the Xbox One's lower power mode will help customers save an average of $6 to $15 per year in energy costs (on average, US customers can expect to pay about $6.50 to $15.50 per year for "Instant-on" and about $0.26 to $0.62 per year for "power saving mode"). However, the company warns that the new "power saving mode" will remove the background refresh feature.
