Since Windows 8, Microsoft has been working on a common graphical user interface for all devices (desktop, laptop, tablet, phone and game console). So far, the company seems to be on the right track, but there is a problem: there is more than one app ecosystem, when in reality there should only be one unified app platform for Windows, Windows RT, Windows Phone and Xbox.

Now a shift could be in the works, according to Terry Myerson, head of Microsoft's operating system division, who hinted at Thursday's financial analyst conference that the company will soon bring all of its app platforms under one roof. That essentially means developers can create an app that works on all devices from the smallest to the largest screen, regardless of where you install it.
