Today is Patch Tuesday, November 2013, and Microsoft is releasing 8 security updates, three of which are marked as critical and the remaining five as important. They affect Windows 8.1, Windows RT 8.1, and earlier versions of the operating system, including Microsoft Office. In addition, there is a mysterious update that is not listed and is intended to improve the performance and reliability of Windows 8.1 and Windows RT 8.1.

Summary of security updates in July 2024
All updates marked as critical are intended to resolve the Remove Code Execution issue in Internet Explorer 11 for Windows 8.1 (Windows RT 8.1) and Internet Explorer 11 in Windows 8 (Windows RT). The remaining three Windows updates are important security updates that address various vulnerabilities in the operating system, including Denial of Service. The remaining two important updates are related to Microsoft Office.
Users still running Windows 7 SP1, Vista, XP and Windows Server will also receive five updates: three critical and two important.
Officially, Microsoft says there are 8 updates in total for this Patch Tuesday, but by my count, there are 9 in total. Windows 8.1 and Windows RT 8.1 users will notice KB2887595, a huge update (~200MB) that brings a number of performance and reliability improvements designed to improve the operating system experience.
