Old Windows updates are back!
In short, last weekend a serious bug appeared in all versions of Internet Explorer that could allow malicious people to gain full user privileges and take control of a PC by visiting a specific web page. It lets them install applications, view and delete data at will, and more. And although Microsoft releases new updates to patch its operating systems every second Tuesday of the month, the company acts quickly and doesn't wait until the next Path Tuesday. Today, the security update for Internet Explorer 11, 10, 9, 8, 7, and 6 (classified as Security Advisory 2963983) is available for download via Windows Update.
"We have decided to provide a security update for Windows XP users. Windows XP is no longer supported by Microsoft, and we continue to recommend that our customers move to a modern operating system, such as Windows 7 or 8.1. In addition, our customers are encouraged to upgrade to the latest version of Internet Explorer, IE 11." – Microsoft added a new post today.
The company also announced that it had decided to release the update KB2964358 for Windows XP due to the approaching end of support for the operating system (April 8, 2014).
