Microsoft Patch Tuesday is back and this time the software giant is releasing various updates for its operating system line, including Windows 8 and Windows RT. In total, there are six new updates that fix several vulnerabilities in Windows, Internet Explorer, Office and Microsoft's .NET Framework.

For the company, this is also the first "Patch Tuesday" for its latest operating systems. Both Win 8 and RT are affected by three of the five security vulnerabilities, which also affect other Windows versions (XP, Vista, Windows 7 and Windows Server 2003/2008) and products integrated into the operating system.
Four of the five Windows bulletins were rated as critical updates. The fifth Windows bulletin was rated as moderate, and the Office bulletin was only rated "important."
If you have automatic Windows updates enabled, these updates should appear on your system shortly. You can also check for updates manually by clicking or tapping the "System and Security" item in Control Panel, and then clicking or tapping "Check for updates."
