Uninstall Microsoft Edge on Windows 11, 10 (2024)
A new tool called MSEdgeRedirect makes it possible to bypass Microsoft's tactic to prevent you from setting another browser as the system default on Windows 11.
Although you can set Chrome, Firefox, Brave, or another browser as your default, Microsoft still forces you to use Microsoft Edge to open certain links, such as those from Windows Search, News, the Widgets Dashboard, and many other places.
The Brave browser, Mozilla and the EdgeDeflector tool were able to bypass this restriction. However, Microsoft quickly responded and stated that workarounds that manipulate system functions are not allowed and will be blocked. And shortly after the response, the company released the KB5008215 update for Windows 11, which prevents third-party tools and browsers from redirecting "Microsoft Edge" links.
