Windows 11: Free upgrade from Windows 8.1 (Official)
I've shared some of the recent changes Microsoft made in Windows 8.1 Update 1, but now I've had a chance to install the standalone package (KB2919355) and play with the latest parts (on a spare PC), and I can confirm that after updating from Windows 8.1 to Windows 8.1 Update 1, the system does indeed boot to the desktop by default on traditional non-touch PCs. However, I've heard that on touch-enabled devices like the Surface Pro 2, Windows boots to the Start screen by default, which only makes sense.
Perhaps one of the “biggest” changes in the latest Windows 8.1 Update 1 leak is that Microsoft has finally changed the name of SkyDrive to OneDrive system-wide.
One improvement that appeared in previous leaks was the PC Settings tile on the Start screen for easy access to Windows' Metro-style Control Panel. In the latest leak, however, the live tile is nowhere to be found — you can still create your own shortcut and pin it to Start, though.
