While Microsoft's reimagining of Windows 8 may backfire, new information from Mary Jo Foley, a very reliable Microsoft watcher at ZDNet, says that the software giant is not only introducing the boot-to-desktop option, but may also be considering bringing back the Start button in Windows 8.1 (Blue).

Mary also stresses that the Start button is still a rumor and "by the time it ships, everything can change," said one of her anonymous sources. Microsoft is expected to release Windows 8.1 in August 2013, but we should have a better understanding of what the upgrade will actually include in the first public preview of Windows Blue, which is due to arrive in late June during the BUILD 2013 developer conference.

Keep in mind that Microsoft bringing back the Start button doesn't necessarily mean the Start menu will come back, but if the company continues to respond to user requests, anything is possible.
