Microsoft: 60 million Windows 8 licenses sold since October.
The number of licenses sold consists of sales to manufacturers for new PCs and upgrade sales for Windows 8. "This is a similar sales development to Windows 7," emphasizes Tami.
The software giant also reports that there are now more than 1,700 certified devices for Windows 8 and Windows RT — that's about 700 more devices than the number announced in October 2012 when the operating system was officially released. And since the launch of the Windows Store, the only store where the new modern Windows 8 apps are available, "the number of apps has quadrupled" and surpassed the 100 million download mark.
It's worth noting that Steve Ballmer, Microsoft's active CEO, said last night during his surprise appearance during the Qualcomm keynote at CES 2013 in Las Vegas that 10,000 new apps were added in the last month alone.
