Surface Pro 3 hands-on at the Surface NYC event

The Surface event took place in New York City on May 20th in a small venue, but Microsoft's announcement was pretty big. However, the company didn't reveal what many of us were expecting: Surface mini. According to many reliable people, Microsoft was planning to release a mini version of the tablet, but changed its mind at the last minute – still, Surface mini is not dead, you just have to wait a little longer.

During the event and before the big reveal, Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella took the stage in an anticipated appearance to talk about “mobile first, cloud first” and how everything fits together at Surface. Then Panos Panay, who is in charge of Surface, introduced the world to the Surface Pro 3.

He introduced the new 12-inch tablet, which the company says is the "thinnest Intel Core product ever." Microsoft also compared the Surface Pro 3 to the 13-inch MacBook, since the tablet is marketed as a laptop replacement and the Surface Pro 3's 3:2 aspect ratio means you get 6% more content on the screen than the MacBook.
