Windows 8.1 brings many improvements, but one in particular has just been discovered: the ability to shut down, restart, and sleep from the Power User menu. This makes accessing Windows 8's power options much easier than before.

How to shut down Windows 8.1
But the thing is that the Windows 8.1 preview is not out yet, it will only be released on Wednesday, June 26, 2013. However, the Windows Server 2012 RT preview has just been made available for download and that is where this new feature was found. Since both versions of the operating system share many similarities, there is a good chance that the Server 2012 RT preview can give us some additional insight into what we can expect from the new update, formerly known as Blue.
So yes, now Windows 8.1 will shut down quickly, even faster if you bring up the Power User menu with the keyboard shortcut + X. But you can also right-click the Start button and access the Power Options. For years, the bottom left of the screen was the hotspot for shutting down the operating system. Then Windows 8 moved the Power Options to a more "logical" location (the Settings menu), but that confused many users, so it's welcome to have these new options back in the same orientation.
Among other small changes, users will also notice that Microsoft has changed the title of "Computer" to "This PC." For more information on Windows 8.1, see our Windows 8 section.
