Although Microsoft has released the last version of Windows 10 for this year, that doesn't mean the company is stopping its work. New leaked screenshots show Windows 10 Build 9888 being distributed through a closed channel and show the company increasing the kernel version number to 10.0.

Since Windows Vista, the kernel version of the operating system has been in the 6.x.xxx range, Windows 7 was introduced with the 6.1.xxx kernel, while Windows 8 received the version 6.2.xxx and Windows 8.1 was raised to the 6.3.xxx version range.
Today, Microsoft has increased the kernel version number of Windows 10 to 10.0.xxx. This is a big change. The company has been working to develop a Windows that works on all form factor devices, offers the same user experience, and uses a single core. The change in kernel version shows that there is a large amount of change in the operating system.
