Windows 10 starts blocking potentially unwanted applications by default

Microsoft says Windows 10 devices are now automatically protected against potentially unwanted applications (PUAs). In Windows 10, PUAs are low-reputation applications that are not considered malware, but can significantly slow down your device, display unwanted advertisements, or contain software that can install other malicious programs.

The feature isn't new. It first appeared as part of the Windows Security app with the release of the May 2020 Update, but was an optional feature. Now, however, Microsoft is toggling the switch to enable the feature by default going forward, but only for devices that use Microsoft Defender Antivirus. If you use a third-party anti-malware solution, this feature isn't enabled by default.

If you want to control the Potentially Unwanted Applications (PUA) feature, you can use this guide, which contains all the steps to enable or disable the setting, as well as check the blocked apps.
