Windows 10 May 2019 Update, version 1903: Installation instructions for the Update Assistant
Starting with Windows 10 May 2019 Update, version 1903, Microsoft is introducing significant changes to its update mechanism to minimize issues and provide a smoother upgrade experience. Among other things, devices will no longer be forced to upgrade and users will now be able to decide for themselves when to install the new version.
However, when the May 2019 Update was rolled out to anyone who wanted to upgrade and clicked the Check for updates button on the Windows Update settings page, many users were given neither an option nor a message explaining why the new version was not available. This left it unclear whether the computer was ready for the new version or if there was a problem with Windows Update.
But now you don't have to go through the hassle of checking for updates manually. When your device is ready, you'll get a notification and the option to start the upgrade.
