Quick Fix for HEVC Video Extension Codec “Missing” (0xc00d5212) Error on Windows 10
Windows 10 MKV Support: This is a popular open standard container that is becoming increasingly popular for high-definition videos. On Windows 8.1, users still need to install additional codecs or download other software like VLC to be able to play MKV video files. However, on Windows 10, MKV is built-in without any additional software or configuration.
Windows 10 High Efficiency Video Coding (HEVC): With the rapidly growing adoption of 4K videos, a video compression standard is needed for better video quality while keeping file size smaller. HEVC, also known as H.265, seems to be the answer and successor to the H.264 video compressor widely used today and promises optimal video quality like H.264 but with better control of file size.
Although Microsoft decided to remove DVD playback support for Windows Media Player in Windows 8, the software in Windows 10 can now natively play MKV and H.265 file formats without the need for additional codecs or software.
