Windows 11: Upgrade from Windows 10 via Windows Update (official)

UPDATED 6/8/2024: Windows 10 can receive several types of updates, including "quality updates" and "feature updates" to fix security vulnerabilities, fix bugs and reliability issues, improve system performance, and introduce new features. Since updates can be confusing and difficult to keep track of, this guide will help you learn the difference between quality and feature updates. You'll also find the history of all Windows 10 updates grouped by release with information like build and knowledge base (KB) number, release date and number, and platform to help you stay up to date.

Quality updates (also called "cumulative updates") are updates that Windows 10 automatically downloads and installs every month through Windows Update. These updates are cumulative and contain new fixes, improvements, and previously available patches. Typically, Microsoft releases these updates every second Tuesday of the month, which is also known as "Patch Tuesday" or "Update Tuesday." Internally, these updates are also known as "B" releases because they are released in the second week of the month. The Windows 10 updates contain security fixes and non-security fixes.

In addition to the B version, Microsoft releases two more updates in the third and fourth weeks of the month, called "C" and "D" versions. These cumulative updates are optional and contain non-security fixes that the company is still testing and plans to release in the next Patch Tuesday update (the following month).
