Windows 10 will be released on July 29

The cat is out of the bag: Microsoft officially announces that Windows 10 will be launched on July 29th and a free upgrade will be available for Windows 7 and Windows 8 users with a valid product key.

Earlier this year, the software maker announced that its next operating system would be released this summer, but no specific date was given. Then, during an earnings call, AMD CEO Lisa also announced that Microsoft plans to release Windows 10 by the end of July, but again, no specific date was given.

Today, Terry Myerson, executive vice president of operating systems at Microsoft, finally announced in a new post on the Windows blog that the company is "almost ready to deliver this free upgrade to all Windows customers" and that the final public release will occur on July 29.
