Let's be clear: Virtual desktops are nothing new. Windows has had virtual desktops (as an add-on) for years in conjunction with the Windows XP PowerToys. Other operating systems have had a virtual desktop manager for years as well, but now Windows 10 is getting a native experience, and today Microsoft is revealing a bit of information about the idea behind this new feature and announcing some new improvements that are coming soon.

Windows 11: Increase your productivity with virtual desktops

According to the software giant, the Windows team had several goals in mind to provide users with a feature that would give them the optimal experience on a single screen using multiple unlimited virtual desktops.

Insiders running Windows 10 Technical Preview have been testing the feature for some time and sending a lot of feedback. Now, thanks to Windows Insiders' recommendation, Microsoft is taking action and improving the feature. Among the changes, Microsoft is adding a method to drag any window from Task View to the desktop. There will also be a new feature that will allow users to drag a thumbnail from Task View to the New Desktop button to create a new virtual desktop.
