Windows 11 Build 22449: New boot animation, SMB compression, setting changes
As part of the next feature update of Windows 11, Microsoft is now making Build 22449 available in the Dev Channel of the Windows Insider program. This is the first preview that the company is releasing to testers in the active development branch (RS_PRERELEASE), which means that any features or improvements are not tied to a specific version of the operating system.
According to the company, Windows 11 Build 22449 makes changes to the SMB compression algorithm previously introduced for Windows 11 so that when compression is requested, the file will always be attempted to be compressed during a network transfer.
In short, SMB compression is a feature that allows a user or application to request compression of files as they are transferred over the network. With this new feature, you no longer have to manually compress a file using an application, copy it, and then decompress it on the destination computer. When compression is used, files use less bandwidth and therefore take less time to transfer, but at the cost of additional processor usage during transfer.
