Speed up a slow hard drive (HDD or SSD)
Windows 11 now has an issue that causes slow performance of NVMe solid-state drives (SSDs). According to user reports on Reddit and the Microsoft forums (via Neowin and XDA), the performance of the NVME drives can be significantly slower after upgrading from Windows 10 to 11 than before the upgrade. For example, some users experience lower input/output operations per second (IOPS) and some others notice slower read/write speeds.
The problem is not new. Reports of this issue have been around for several months, even when the operating system was still in preview. But after Microsoft decided to launch Windows 11 on October 5, 2021, nothing seems to have changed.
In the Microsoft forums, user “MJ_JasonM” describes his experience and shares a screenshot of the drive performance under Windows 10 and then after upgrading to Windows 11.
