Windows 11: NEW: Redesign of the Photos app (first preview of 2022)

Microsoft is developing a new Photos app for Windows 11 that includes a new modern user interface that follows the same design language the company is pushing with the new WinUI operating system. (The app is rolling out to Insiders now, and here's a first look.)

The app isn't available yet, but Panos Panay, head of Windows and devices at Microsoft, teased the new design in a short Twitter video. The video shows that the app retains the classic look but includes changes designed to make it easier for users to organize and edit their images.

The new Photos app still has the same main page, divided into five categories: Collection, Albums, People, Folders, and Video Editor. Selecting an image now opens the entire canvas of the application, and floating items give you access to the commands. The bottom bar displays additional images that you can select to view and edit a group of images.
