Despite recent rumors, Windows 365 is not part of Microsoft's plans. As you may recall, not long ago we heard rumors that Microsoft was creating a subscription-based version of Windows with features and options very similar to those of Office 365. The information we had indicated that this new Windows as a service would be called "Windows 365." Now, a new report from ZDNet reveals that the software giant is neither working on nor planning to deliver such a product.

Microsoft 365: Don’t fall for it!
The reason a Windows subscription doesn't work is easy to understand. Just ask yourself this question: How often do consumers actually buy a new copy of Windows over the lifetime of a given PC? The answer is almost never… Unless you're a tech enthusiast who always wants the latest and greatest.
Also, we have to consider all the changes Microsoft is already making to Windows licensing. We've already heard from the company that it will offer Windows Phone and Windows 8.1 for free to phone and PC makers for devices under 9 inches. In addition, we've even heard about the new SKU for Windows 8.1 with Bing, which could potentially be another way for manufacturers to pre-install Windows at a really low cost or even for free (we don't know the final decision yet).
"Windows is a platform, not a service." And as Microsoft continues to bet on cloud services like Windows Azure, OneDrive, Office 365, Xbox Live, Bing, Skype, Xbox Music, and others where the big money is, Windows may soon become a mere enabler for accessing those cloud services, and it would not be hard to imagine Windows becoming a free operating system in the future.
