It's incredible that Microsoft introduced Windows 8 a year ago, and today Windows 8.1 is available to download and install on any compatible PC. Not only does Windows 8.1 represent Microsoft's vision for the future of the operating system, but it's also the first of many rapid releases the company plans (think of it as a service pack). Rest assured that "Windows 8.2," or whatever Microsoft calls the next release, is already in the works and will likely launch in late 2014.

Windows 8.1 review – Is it good?
Windows 8.1 can be defined as a more refined and polished product that overcomes many of the problems of the original version twelve months ago. As many of you already know, Windows 8.1 is technically an update to Windows 8 and Windows RT. Many people will also refer to this version as an upgrade, which is still a fair statement considering all the improvements, refinements and features you get. Previously, the software giant explained that it did not use the word "upgrade" because you would have to pay for it, and 8.1 was a free update for all current Windows 8 users.
New users who want to upgrade will have to pay the same price as Windows 8: $119.99 for Windows 8.1 (Core) and $199.99 for Windows 8.1 Pro. (For more information on pricing, see this previous article.) However, Microsoft is not offering major discounts like it did when Windows 8 was released.
Yes, if you want to buy the upgrade version of Windows 8.1, you are out of luck, the company no longer offers this product, from now on only the full versions.
