First Look: Windows 8.1 RTM Build 9600 – Start Screen, Apps, Desktop, PC Settings, and More
Today, word is that Microsoft has already compiled this final version of the operating system. Why do we think that? Well, we know that the final parts will start with 9600, and today a new tweet from long-time Microsoft watcher Paul Thurrott says 9600.16384.130821-1623, which may suggest that this is the RTM version that OEMs will receive.
The information also led me to Betawiki.net, a website that tracks beta versions of software, and Paul's tweet shows as a confirmed build that was compiled on August 21. There is a higher build number that reads 6.3.9600.16384.winblue_rtm.130822-2140, which suggests there is a newer build that was compiled on August 22, but the information cannot be confirmed.
This comes just days after we learned about Windows 8.1 Build 9471, which gave us a taste of the operating system's upcoming annual update.
