Mark your calendars, because according to the latest rumors, Microsoft is planning to release Windows 8.1 Update 1 on March 11, 2014, ZDNet reports from trusted sources familiar with the development. And it's no coincidence that the update is rolling out on a Patch Tuesday, as the company will make Update 1 available through Windows Update rather than the Windows Store, as it did with Windows 8.1.

Windows 11: Free upgrade from Windows 8.1 (Official)
Another new piece of information about Windows 8.1 Update 1 is that Microsoft plans to reduce the amount of memory and hard drive space required to install the operating system. These changes will make Windows more suitable for low-cost and small tablets.
Earlier this week, we saw leaked screenshots for Windows 8.1 Update 1 that highlighted a new option that allows users to pin modern apps to the desktop's taskbar. Then a second set of leaked screenshots surfaced that showed hover previews of running pinned apps on the taskbar. It also confirmed that Microsoft is working on building close and minimize buttons into Windows 8-style apps to improve usability and further integrate "Metro" into the desktop.
