The wait to download the "Windows 8.1 Update" is almost over. Next week, on April 8, Microsoft will make the update available through Windows Update for PCs running Windows 8 and Windows 8.1. However, the company is releasing the updates today, April 2, to MSDN and TechNet subscribers. Microsoft officially announced the news on the first day of Build 2014, the company's annual developer conference in San Francisco.

Windows 11: Free upgrade from Windows 8.1 (Official)
If Microsoft has demoed "Windows 8.1 Update" (which is the official name, not Windows 8.1 Update 1) and you've been following my coverage of recent leaks, you know pretty much everything that's coming: booting to the desktop, power options, startup context menu, disk management option in PC Settings, the ability to easily close apps and navigate between the Metro and desktop environments. All of the new changes and improvements are aimed at making Windows 8.1 a better operating system for PCs with a keyboard and mouse, something Microsoft admittedly missed.
