Like many others, the ability to boot to the desktop is already part of Windows 8.1, fulfilling the promise of many. The option was spotted in a new screenshot originally posted on the Win8Beta website, along with other options that I list below.

Windows 8.1: Boot option to desktop

This small change is significant and will surely please many users. Microsoft has already unveiled many new features for Windows 8.1 this week, even the Start button appeared in the demo the company showed. The only interesting option left was the Boot to Desktop option, which Microsoft calls "Switch to the desktop instead of Start when logging in," which is part of the Start Screen settings page in Task Manager and Navigation Properties.
